The Foreman
Half-hour stage play
Logline:
In the heat of a Nazareth workshop, a logical carpenter must choose between a quiet exit that saves his reputation—and a marriage that will make him the most ridiculed man in history.
Synopsis:
Jo is a meticulous man who trusts only what he can measure. When his fiancée Mary claims her pregnancy is a "visit from the Most High," his world collapses. To Jo, it isn't a miracle; it's a disaster.
Fearing for Mary's safety in a community that doesn't take kindly to scandal, Jo prepares a Writ of Severance to end the engagement quietly. But before he can sign, a stranger in a high-viz vest named Gabe arrives in the workshop. Gabe isn't interested in theology; he's a site foreman from "Management" here to talk logistics.
Across five scenes, The Foremen explores the "work" behind the Nativity. It's a battle between a practical man and a plan that demands he build a life on faith alone. Jo is forced to decide what truly defines a father: biology, or being the one who stays.
Themes:
A contemporary retelling of the Nativity from Joseph's perspective, exploring faith, fatherhood, and what it means to build something you can't fully understand. The play asks a simple question: what makes a father — biology or the man who stays?
